Years in the Industry? 40
Why do you want to serve on the TWHBEA National Board? I have served on this board for 5 years, rotating off in December, 2005. I have taken my year off and am now eligible for re-election. I served on several committees during my tenure including the Youth....I sincerely believe the system of all the different committees that were in place when I left the board in 2005, should continue to be the strong force in the decisions made by TWHBEA.... Committees need to use members from many different areas where the Walking Horse is strong so that the entire Walking Horse world is represented. It is my understanding that the current leadership of the TWHBEA has reduced the number of committees and their impact that they have in the decision making process. I strongly urge that all members of the TWHBEA take this election seriously and put in place strong leaders to serve on these committees. The role they play in the future organization programs will determine the future of the Tennessee Walking Horse. With almost 40 years of owning, breeding, riding and showing, both pleasure and performance horses, I want to be one of these leaders. I BELIEVE THE TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE IS THE MOST VERSITAL HORSE ever and I feel that both flat shod and performance horses, have a wonderful future in the show ring. Also believe the flat shod horses are rising to the top now as Endurance, Trail. Western and English pleasure, and working horses as they use on ranches, field trials, etc. Please consider my background and commitment of many years as well as service on the National Board for 5 years and re-elect me so that I can help stand firm to keep the TWHBEA a sound and member conscious association.
A little about myself:I have been involved in raising these horses since 1967. Some of our first mares and colts were by legendary stallions such as Midnight Sun, Merry Go Boy, Last Chance, Ebony Masterpiece, Carbon Copy, Sun's Delight and others. At this writing, we have mares and colts by Black Rain, Armed & Dangerous, Ebony Masterpiece, Pride's Beam, JFK, Extra Cash, Mark Grandy and others. We breed to truly natural walking horses that can produce colts that walk when they hit the ground. Over the years I have shown performance horses locally and at the Celebration. I also recently owned a Park Pleasure show horse "Trip of a Lifetime" shown and promoted by Jeff Givens. I showed Plantation Pleasure horse when flat shod horses when not that popular, back in the 70's.
I have served on the board of the N.C. Walking Horse Association in the past, been chairman of several Walking Horse Shows in NC. Served on the Advisory Board for the Exceptional Equestrians program at the Western Carolina Center in Morganton, NC. This program gives a chance for the special needs patients at this center to enjoy the special bond between horse and rider. The benefits that these horses provide to them is immeasurable. The NC Walking Horse Association as well as many individual members have given this program much support for many years. The Tennessee Walking Horse is very well known and loved among the patients and leaders in this program. I am also a Member of the SC Walking Horse Association.
