Why do you want to serve on the TWHBEA National Board? I want to serve Alabama as a TWHBEA Director. This election is a critical turning point in the history of this longstanding organization. It is important that three major areas be addressed in detail:
1. We must improve and enhance Communication across all boundaries of the breed.
2. We must re-build relationships and create new ones to survive.
3. We must ensure sustainability…both finicianial and programmatic.
I pledge to do the following if elected:

5. Spouse:
a. Married to Bill Cantrell for 39 years. He has owned his training business in Phenix City, Al. for the entire
39 years. He has rode over 100 world championships, and has been President of the Walking Horse Trainers
Association for three terms. He has been Trainer of the year…and also has been inducted into the
Celebration Hall of Fame.
6. Achievements/honors within the Tennessee Walking Horse Industry:
a. Life long member of the Walking Horse Trainers Auxiliary (since its inception 1971) serving in every
office capacity…served as President for 3 years. Received the first “Member of the Year” award. Currently
serves as the Building Committee and Grand Prize Giveaway Chairs.
b. Inducted into the Celebration Hall of Fame
c. Serves as a volunteer for the Walking Horse Trainers Association. Responsible for the Trainers Show
Program for the past 25 years..which includes securing funding in excess of $200,000 annually for the
National Trainers Show. Helps coordinate the annual December Trainers Banquet.
d. Inducted into the Trainers “Friendship Club” in 1995.
e. Recognized and profiled in the “Blue Ribbon” yearbook in 1990.
f. Served on the workshop panel “Planning and Implementing a Horse Show” sponsored by the Celebration.
g. Donated “7” Thanksgiving weekends to Easter Seals, Inc.
h. Trainers Show Program dedication in 1990.

7. Achievements in non-horse related areas:
***Note: I have been a Public Health employee for the State of Georgia for over 36 years. I retired in
February 2005. I functioned as District Program Manager for the Georgia Department of Human Resources.
In this capacity, I was responsible for managing over 63 comprehensive public health programs and over
300 public health services with over 500 employees. I also managed a 24 million dollar budget. Needless
to say…I loved my profession. I could have retired 3 years earlier…but I enjoyed getting up every morning
excited to get to my work place…serving the public is a an honor and a wonderful opportunity.
1. Established the 1st AIDS clinic in Georgia in 1981. Wrote a grant and received a $4 million dollar grant
funding from the Federal Government to provide primary care services to HIV/AIDS patients.
2. Public Health Practitioner of the Year for the State of Georgia in 1998. *This honor goes to a person
who has exhibited not only excellent clinical skills, but more importantly…a person who shows dedication
and true compassion for others. Note: The half-million dollar funding received for this honor was dedicated
to an Alternative School for pregnant teens.
3. Received the 1999 Woman of the Year award for the State of Georgia.
4. In the process of writing a book….Coloring outside the Lines…which reflects and tells a story about my
1st five AIDS patients.
5. Member of the Governor’s AIDS Task Force in Georgia.
6. Past president of the Georgia Public Health Association.
7. Chairperson of the 1996 Columbus, Georgia Olympics Committee.
8. Glaxco Wellcome Child Health Public Health Employee Recognition Award…1998. (I was the first recipient
of this award for the State of Georgia.)
9. Jules S. Terry Memorial Award…1999.
10. Barfield Award…1993 and 1999.
11. Dr. James Alley Rural Health Individual Service Award.
12. Associate Professor for Emory University and Columbus State University systems.
13. Co-Winner of Sellers-McCroan Away for Rabies Investigation.
14. Past Bio-Terrorism Coordinator for the State of Georgia.
15. Member of Exchange Club…serves as horse show coordinator.
16. Physician’s Foundation Chair of Health Screening from 1999 to current.
17. Member of Crawford Baptist Church…sings in choir.
18. Volunteer Award from Exchange Club.
19. Planned and implemented Scoliosis Screening programs throughout State of Georgia.
20. Serves on Board of Habitant for Humanity…helps coordinate annual fundraiser event.
21. Volunteer for “101 Angels Project”…(provides Christmas gifts for children infected with the AIDS virus).
22. Established and functions as a clinician for the Pediatric AIDS clinic in Columbus, Ga.
23. Created and established the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition.
8. Leisure/fun time: It is important that “fun” be included in our daily activities. I enjoy reading, walking, and
all family events. I am in the process of taking art lessons.

upon must inevitable come to pass.”
In closing, I want to share two things…
a. Bill and I are the proud godparents to 4 adorable children.
b. I live everyday by something my father…my mentor…taught me at a very young age...he said...“Always
remember…Have a heart that never hardens, a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts”.
